As many of you know my husband is retired Air Force.
He served for 20 years.
Our kids where born on the Military base in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Mike O' Callaghan Federal Hospital.
It is a very difficult way of life for families.
We got married late in life and after one month of marriage my husband was deployed to Panama for 6 months. Single Again?
We thought we were in the clear for a while but three months after our daughter was born he was deployed to Saudi Arabia for 6 months that tuned into closer to 8 months.
This was heartbreaking for him to think of having to leave us behind and missing all of the "firsts" our daughter would be doing in her first year of life.
He came home and could not get enough time with our daughter!
Thinking yet again we were in the clear for a while....he got orders to deploy to Turkey.
A country he loves but leaving us behind one more time was next to devastating to him.
He was gone for 7 months.
He retired from the Air Force March of 2001 and when September 11 happened we thought for sure he would be required to re-enlist.
Luckily for us it did not happen.
As Memorial Day rolls around every year I think of his sacrifice in having to leave us and head over seas to a world unknown.
We were so lucky because he came home safe.
Many do not return and I think of them and their families--HUGE--sacrifice for us in the name of freedom.
THANK YOU is not near enough to convey what these soldiers have done for us but,
Thank you!
Wishing all of you a safe and happy Memorial Day!
Enjoy,
Barb
