Baking...

Well it is not the heat of the season, it is me trying to bake cookies.

For those that know me, my talents are limited...

Sewing and I are not friends,

Cooking and I have issues,

Walking and talking are difficult,

And

Now I can add baking!

I am working on refreshments for my son's Eagle Scout Court of Honor next Sunday.

He did a difficult Eagle project so I figured the least I could do would be to bake cookies.

(Here is were I blame the altitude...right!)

I have spent the last three days baking and now I am hoping some of these cookies are edible.

I did followed the directions to the letter!?!

These look so good!  I borrowed this photo from Pinterest and now will be trying these.

Out of the 10 batches I have made I am hoping that about half will look and taste presentable!

The rejects have been taste tested and we are still alive that is a good thing!

Wish me luck today in the kitchen, and does practice really make perfect?

Our Time up at the Utah VA Nursing Home

Our second visit for my son's Eagle Scout Project was very successful and I think a great learning opportunity for the boys.  

 

 They were able to assist and learn a bit from these men.

 It was looking pretty good!

Tomatoes and Marigolds were planted in the boxes.

 On the upper garden they planted zucchini, green beans, summer squash, cucumbers and pumpkins.

 

 We were able to talk to one of the Veterans who was flying a plane over Germany and was shot down.  He then spent the rest of his war time in Stalag Luft I.  A true American Hero!!

 Hopefully this last Memorial Day and future ones will mean more to these boys!

 Our next visit included my son "getting" to hold this baby kangaroo.

One of the VA personnel raises these babies until they are about one year old.

He was not to happy to hold this little guy after he had heard my story of visiting a Kangaroo habitat in Australia and being KICKED so hard in the leg that I could barely walk for a week.  (All because I had run out of food to feed them.  I got out of there fast.)

 We cleaned up the rabbit hutches and gave them some new straw.

 I think they were a couple of happy bunnies!

All in all it was a good project for us to do and I think the boys learned allot!!

We have a couple of little things left to do up there and I think we will be done.

Success!!

Last Thursday we were able to take five Scout, our family and another Scout leader up to work on the garden beds at the Utah Veteran's Nursing home.

We were able to lay new soil, till in the soil, water proof the garden boxes, and get it raked ready for planting this next Thursday with the residents.  

 It has been a lot of work but really beneficial for my son.  I think we have all learned so much about organizing a troop, communications, and securing funding.

Hopefully these will be things he will remember and take with him into his life and learn from them.

The troop was willing to work and we all had a good time. 

 My daughter even got into the action! 

 They all did such a great job and we got everything done that was outlined by my son! 

 We even had Pizza, cookies, and soda pop for dinner!!

Happy May Day complete with SNOW!!

Nothing  like going from 70+ degrees to white out snow storm today and back to mid 30's.

I do not think I am the only one that is "mental"...mom nature comes to mind!

But on a GREAT note I was the winner of Becky's give away over at the Country Lane Folk Art Blog!

 She is a fabulous painter!!  

 Love this Pear.  Yes, she is so talented!  Once again photos do not do these pieces of art justice!

This is a little candy dish holder she had added Kisses too...but I was under stress and pretty much ate them all before I got to taking the photos!

Under stress you ask??? 

 My son is in the middle of working on his Eagle Scout project so it has been a bit time consuming and stressful.  

His project is to help the Utah State Veteran's Center help get their gardens ready to plant.  Then the Scouts will help the Veteran's plant the food that they eat at the center.

Now if the weather will cooperate we could get this going for them.

So if I am MIA for a bit I am up at the VA helping the Scouts get this underway.
